Sheriffmuir Doublet & 5-Button Vest
Occasion: Evening Dress
The Sheriffmuir Doublet is a traditional piece of evening wear, worn with a kilt and with a high collar and gauntlet cuffs. Although increasingly worn with a necktie or ruched tie (as shown) under the waistcoat, in the past this was usually worn with a large lace jabot, and cuffs. The Sheriffmuir also takes a shoulder plaid for formal occasions.
If an invitation specifies formal or black tie (bow tie), then the jabot and cuffs should be worn with this jacket: not a ruched tie or necktie.
They come in three standard baratheas; black, bottle green, and navy blue with a 5-button vest. This can also be worn with a tartan vest. The rule of thumb is that tartan worn above the waist (vest) or below the knee (hose) should be on the diagonal. Other colours are available upon request in heavier baratheas.
